This watercolor, 10 1/2 x 16", shows Blue Coyote biting off more than she can chew. I think we all know this feeling--starting off jaunty & full of energy, sure we can do it. At some point our Yellow Moose turns around. By the end of the day we're run ragged.
I'm illustrating a story that is unknown to me. Spirit gives me impulses that I paint to the best of my ability. Blue Coyote is a recurrent character, along with Changing Woman, Eagle Man, Thunder Woman, Buffalo Dreamer, Corn Grandmother, Yellow Moose, Bird Grandmother, Red Orca, Wolf Grandmother, & Old Man of Mosquito Lake. Maybe they show us aspects of ourselves. Maybe they show us how to grope our way back to harmony with all our relations. This isn't my story, it's our collective story. Each person brings their own words & experiences to these pictures. Looks like we have challenges. Looks like we need help. Looks like we get it.
Raised by trees in New England & further educated by forests in Oregon & California. For 35 years I've been painting to restore harmony with all our relations. I'm a founding member of Sebastopol Gallery & support the work of Honor the Earth. A life-threatening illness brought out my affinity for NDNs. I yearn to help restore Native values to American culture & policy. Meanwhile my two daughters keep me in line.
